We’re expanding and need a passionate and skilled Backend Developer to help bring our mobile experience to life. Role Overview:

As a Volunteer Back-End Developer, you will be critical to the engine that powers BoursePad. You’ll build, maintain, and optimize the server-side logic that drives our mobile and web apps. You’ll work closely with our front-end developers, product team, and designers to ensure seamless performance, security, and scalability.

What you will do

  • API Development: Build and maintain clean, efficient, and secure RESTful APIs that integrate with our mobile and web platforms.

  • Database Management: Design, manage, and optimize relational or NoSQL databases to support student profiles, scholarships, and sponsor data.

  • System Architecture: Contribute to the architecture of scalable systems that will support thousands of students and sponsors.

  • Security & Data Protection: Implement robust authentication, authorization, and data security best practices.

  • Feature Implementation: Work with the product and design teams to turn requirements into functional, reliable backend features.

  • Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, improve server-side performance, and ensure fast response times.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with front-end developers to ensure smooth integration of APIs and consistent data flow.

  • Maintenance & Debugging: Troubleshoot issues, fix bugs, and maintain stability across the BoursePad ecosystem.

What we are looking for

  • Experience with Node.js, Python, or PHP (Node.js preferred)

  • Familiarity with frameworks like Express, Django, or Laravel

  • Strong understanding of REST APIs

  • Experience with relational or NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Firebase)

  • Version control (Git/GitHub)

  • Experience with AWS, Firebase, or Google Cloud

  • Understanding of DevOps or CI/CD

  • Knowledge of authentication (JWT, OAuth, etc.)

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Clear communication

  • Reliability and accountability

  • Passion for education and social impact

  • Ability to collaborate in a remote, fast-paced environment without supervision
